Day 23 of 100 Days: Breakthrough: “Confronting the Enemy” Read: Acts 19

Chuck Pierce

In 1983 Pam was diagnose as barren with no possibility of conceiving. I stayed up late that night to pray to the Lord and He said to me, “You can turn the enemy into his own fire” I knew that He was saying that the enemy’s plan of destruction could be turned back on him. I was awakened about an hour later by a visible evil presence standing next to my bed. I said: “In the name of Jesus, who are you?” This presence identified itself as Ashtoreth. It appeared to look like a woman, but had a man’s voice. The voice from the presence then said: “I have come to take your children”. I commanded it to leave in the name of Jesus and by His blood. By this time, Pam was awake. She could also perceive the evil in the room. I would like to focus more on breakthrough the next few days. I feel this is important.

The enemy comes to us and reveals himself to tempt us to leave the purpose of God.  He also will attempt to produce such fear in us that we stop seeking the Lord for our promises. Do not be afraid to confront any enemy that comes on your territory.  You should study to show thyself approved. As I studied Ashtoreth, I found this was a goddess linked with fertility.  In many of our books, I write about generational iniquity. Our families were so steeped with many iniquitous patterns,

One of our greatest assignments at Global Spheres Ministries has been to confront the Queen of Heaven so her captives can go free. Wisdom confronts. I now understand a greater picture of why this force would address me.  Ashtoreth is linked with Queen of Heaven worship.  This goddess would adapt its form/name from culture to culture, always seeking to solicit the worship any who would revere her.  “Artemis (Diana) was a protectress of youth, especially those of her own sex. Young girls revered the virgin goddess as the guardian of their maiden years and before marriage offered her a lock of their hair, their girdle, and their maiden garment. She was supposed to assist at childbirth. In early times human sacrifices had been offered to Artemis. A relic of this was the yearly custom, observed at Sparta, of flogging the boys till they bled at the altar of a deity known as Artemis Orthia.  ‘Artemis of the Ephesians’ was not a Greek divinity, but Asiatic. This is shown by the fact that eunuchs were employed in her worship - a practice quite foreign to Greek ideas. She was not regarded as a virgin but as mother and foster-mother, as is clearly shown by the multitude of breasts in the rude effigy. She was undoubtedly a representative of the same power presiding over conception and birth that was adored in Palestine under the name Ashtoreth. Her worship, frantic and fanatical after the manner of Asia, was traced back to the Amazons.  Her temple at Ephesus was one of the wonders of the world, but its great glory was the ‘image which fell down from heaven’ (Acts 19:35). Images claiming so lofty an origin were to be found in cities other than Ephesus. Once in the year there was a public festival in honor of the goddess at Ephesus, to which all the Ionians who could do so came with their wives and children, bringing costly offerings to Artemis and rich presents for the priests. Great gain came to the silversmiths in making and selling small images of the goddess.
