Day 36 of 100 Days: “Rebuilding David’s Tabernacle Again!” Read Matthew 9, Meditate on Acts 15, Memorize Matthew 9:17

Chuck Pierce

Change can be good or devastating. The evolution (used in the right sense) of one structure to another is very important to understand. When we read the history of change in a field, any field, we are amazed at how God chose gifted, submitted people with creative ability to lead us through changes and then end up with a product of greater quality than the one that began the process.  The transition that occurs in that reforming process is amazing. Transition has three key phases: an ending or death, confusion in development of the new process, and finally a new and better display of the original. Another way of saying this is: A hard death causes a germination process that results in a new thing

As time has progressed, the original Ford Model T car has now transitioned to many different forms of much greater quality.  That prototype has now been used by many throughout the world to bring change in how we reach our destination. To build or rebuild is to create something with a new look or of a better quality than the original.  To build means to add “sons and daughters” to what is being built.  God’s intent in every generation is to find someone or a group who would build a new David’s Tabernacle - the best prototype that had ever been built for His Presence to dwell within.  This prototype would be used for worship.

New or neos can mean something that has never been before. Usually, new is better reflected in the word kainos, which means something from the original that is now of much better quality and more efficient for the time. The only place that we find both these words working together is in Matthew 9 when our Lord is helping the next generation of disciples prepare to build the future prototype for the Church to come. I want you to read this passage that we often use to justify change. Jesus made a famous statement about a new wine skin. Matthew recorded the statement for us to understand for the centuries of time that would follow. He said, “You can’t put ‘new’ (Greek neoswinein old wineskins, but you need new, ‘fresh’ (kainos)wineskins.”  “Neos” means “new” in respect to time, implying immaturity or lack of development.  “Kainos” means “new” or “renewed or rebuilt” in respect to quality.  This statement contrasted the “old” or “not renewed” and implied superiority.  However, I want you to read this statement in full context.

The first issue in changing and moving into the next structure for a new season is:How teachable are you?  Matthew 9:12-13 says, “But when Jesus heard it, He replied, ‘Those who are strong and well (healthy) have no need of a physician, but those who are weak and sick.’ Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy [that is, readiness to help those in trouble] and not sacrifice and sacrificial victims. For I came not to call and invite [to repentance] the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), but sinners (the erring ones and all those not free from sin).”(AMP) Jesus had changed His approach from the way John the Baptist had evangelized (calling many out to the desert for repentance) to actually going where the sinners were. Jesus knew that there was such a need for grace with prostitutes, thieves and others of low reputation whose sins were blatant and obvious.  Established religion did not give these types the opportunity to change. The religious structure had rules and laws that they themselves had grown blind to because of their “righteous” understanding, and pretexts could cover their conscience. Jesus was teaching that those who said that they were “righteous” were actually worse and resisted any new teaching.

The next issue in shifting is how your worship and authority develop as you enter a new season.  “Then the disciples of John came to Jesus, inquiring, ‘Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, [that is, abstain from food and drink as a religious exercise], but Your disciples do not fast?’ And Jesus replied to them, ‘Can the wedding guests mourn while the bridegroom is still with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. And no one puts a piece of cloth that has not been shrunk on an old garment, for such a patch tears away from the garment and a worse rent (tear) is made.’” (vss. 14-16).  In an attempt to validate Jesus’ discipleship method, John’s disciples brought up how John had trained them to fast and wear certain garments. Notice, John’s disciples had actually gone backwards to align with the Pharisees’ form of worship and teaching. Jesus was warning that the last season’s spiritual methods, such as fasting, would not be the real key to unlocking the season that they were presently forming and building. Actually, He was showing them that the old structure of religion and Judaism could not be patched by the Messiah-infiltrated Kingdom plan. Old teaching without a newmashach, or anointing, is not enough to produce spiritual life. A new anointing without a foundation can be disastrous. Therefore, a shrinking of the original garment and the new piece must occur. This is important as the two fit together. This becomes one of the most difficult lessons as you approach the new. One must determine how to align the new with the old. One must worship in spirit and truth to find reality!

There has to be an adjustment as you move into the new. However, the adjustment must occur without compromise. Neither is new wine put in old wineskins; for if it is, the skins burst and are torn in pieces, and the wine is spilled and the skins are ruined. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.” (v.17).   Old wineskins have lost their strength and elasticity so that they cannot withstand the pressure of new wine still fermenting, although an old wineskin can be restored to service if it’s useful qualities are renewed. Here it is Judaism which must be adjusted to Messianic faith. If one tries to put new wine (Messianic faith) into old wineskins (traditional Judaism), the faith is lost and Judaism ruined. But if Judaism is freshly prepared and reconditioned so that it can accommodate trust in Yeshua the Messiah, both the faith and the renewed Judaism, Messianic Judaism, are preserved.

The new wine of Kingdom living cannot be poured into an old religious form that continues to remain rigid from the past way of learning and doing. If these old religious forms will become “fresh,” they can accommodate Yeshua, the Messiah, the Anointed One. When “kainos” is rendered “new,” the wineskin or structure becomes a vessel which can hold the new wine of Messianic life in a Jewish setting. The renewed, restored, reconditioned and refreshed form of worship can now suffice for adding sons and daughters into for the future.

The key to any new season is either to press through and come out of the old last administration, or to be resurrected into the new administration. “While He was talking this way to them, behold, a ruler entered and, kneeling down, worshiped Him, saying, My daughter has just now died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will come to life. And Jesus got up and accompanied him, with His disciples. And behold, a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment; for she kept saying to herself, ‘If I only touch His garment, I shall be restored to health.’” (vss. 18-21)

The number 12 means new administration. One woman confined and diseased for 12 years pressed out of the old diseased prison of life and touched the new structure. She pressed past her gender, her impure state, and the legal bondage that held her. A young girl 12 years of age fell asleep and died but was resurrected and awakened into the new administrative structure. This proved that if you were held captive in a legal structure or past season, you could get out through faith or be raised by faith with no effort into the new that was waiting.

Are you ready to go again into the new?  We must be willing to press through each season to become part of the new that is being birthed and the structure that houses the future.  If we do so, we can both be poured out again and change the world around us! Your transition to the new may have been difficult. You may have needed to die in many areas and be confused from all you have gone through. However, press through for the new is worth the difficulties!
